A New Hope…

I was deep in the bowels of the Recipator last night, and made SOME progress; however, recipe retrieval is still not functioning. I’ll be taking an in-depth swing at the causes there tonight.

While digging through the Recipator folders on the old server. I did find a document that coughed up a mailing address for Mark Riley, which Google, Trulia, etc. says is still current. I wrote Mark a letter imploring his help. and popped that into the snail mail system. Hopefully, that will bear fruit, and the Old Master will return to put his creation back into fighting trim.

Thanks for bearing with. As I said, it is one of my priorities, but my skills in all things C are VERY rusty, and, unfortunately or otherwise, real life takes precedence over the maintenance of this thing.

Cheers!

  1. I also see the recipe start screen is up but not yet functioning. A light in the tunnel?

    1. Well, I’m trying. Only thing worse than deciphering and debugging your own code is deciphering and debugging someone else’s….

      1. Hello, just wondering if any progress has been made in last couple months? Really excited for this to come back online! Thanks for working on it!

        1. Only that Mark Riley did not respond to my letter pleading for help. I have had a personal set-back, plus it is that happy time when we focus on telling the government that they really don’t get to keep all of the money they’ve stolen from our paychecks. I haven’t given up! But I haven’t had much success in what I’ve been doing.

I think I’m going to focus on getting the rest of the site online before tackling it again. Particularly since the old box has mysteriously begun eating files…

    1. I miss me, too 🙁

I’m going line-by-line through Mark’s program. Had I written it, the changes that made the forms finally pop up would have been it – a succinct object containing all of the path information, rewritten to add the configuration for its new digs. It looks like this was how Mark had intended it, but I can find nothing in the VPS security model that should be preventing its run, so I suspect there may have been some “expeditious” lines of code added to other modules to fix issues along the way. Unfortunately, the personal life has me flat-out swamped, so I’m not getting as much time on this as I would hope (and as is obvious by the state you still find the Recipator in). If only my Christmas Greetings to Mark had borne fruit – then the great Obi Wan of the Recipator would have swooped in and saved us from this morass (and my semi-abysmal programming skills)… Ah, to dream.
