Annual Atom Mashers Campout --------------------------- Bryan Bennett For those of you that couldn't/didn't make it YOU MISSED OUT! This years Atom Mashers Campout was a blast. The site was a nice as you could ask for; a stream running right next to the campgrounds, butterflies, wildflowers and berries everywhere, great weather (OK, it rained some, but this IS the New Mexico mountains in August) a huge pavilion with plenty of tables. Perfect! For the Saturday night feast we had enough food there to feed twice as many people as attended. And great food it was. Tamales, posole, green chili stew (Mike's recipe is later in this issue), fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, salads galore, bratwursts, burgers, salmon. We all got stuffed! And with this crowd you'd expect a lot of beer. Well, we had it. A pony keg, a couple of mini kegs, and more coolers of beer than we had people. Plus plenty of meads. The entertainment included horseshoe pitching, velcro catch, guitar playing, fishing, hiking, tall tale telling, and a game of 20 questions around the campfire. Try playing this with a campfire full of inebriates sometime! We were also entertained all day Saturday by a hummingbird that thought a hanging lantern was a feeder. Every half hour or so he'd come back, trying in vain to find the spigots. I'm definitely throwing my vote into having the event at the same site next year.
