Spring Thing Report -- Atom Mashers Excelled

The annual Dukes of Ale Spring Thing was held a couple of weeks back, moved
up a month from the usual April date. It was obvious that the move took
many people by surprise; entries were only about half the number of last
year. But it was, as usual, a well run event with some good beers to judge.

The Atom Mashers did not have an overwhelming turnout either in entries or
judges. Mike Hall, Larry Sitney and myself were there to represent our club
on Saturday with Geoff Reeves and Reiner Friedel showing up on Sunday.

Although the Atom Mashers had few entries we did quite well on the awards;
we earned 5 medals - 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze. Brent Newman scored a
gold with his Scotch Strong Ale. I judged this beer and can tell you that
it was excellent and deserved it's 40 point score. Mike Hall & Jim Morel
earned the other gold with a Traditional English Ale. Look for this one at
our April competition.

I earned the lone silver medal with an American Pale Ale.

Mike & Jim were out for blood in this competition and snagged themselves a
second medal, a bronze, for their Tripel. Lara Bennett rounded out our medal
take with a bronze for her Cherry Pie Mead.

Altogether not a bad showing for the Los Alamos brewers!
