Campout information

This page is for information on our annual picnic. Many things about this event do not really change, such as the location and details of the campout. Please see the following pages for past reviews/pictures:

CAMPOUT? HUH? WHERE?

As in many years past, we will be at Holy Ghost Group Campsite in
the Pecos. I doubt if there would be a problem with
early or late arrivals, as long as you were polite to anyone else
that might be there and liquored them up real good.

How to get there? First, take a look at this map:
<http://www.taosweb.com/maps/PecosMap.PDF>. Take I-25 east (toward
Las Vegas) from Santa Fe and get off at the Glorietta/Pecos exit
(about 18 miles). Take state highway 50 east to the town of Pecos,
and turn left on highway 63 (north). Then go about 14 miles to
forest road 122 (at Terrero), take a left on 122 and go about 4
miles to Holy Ghost campground. Take the Holy Ghost Group A loop
and find Group site #1. We'll be the ones your mother warned you
about. John will be the one in the funny hat. On second thought,
that may be hard to determine.

Combination Lock on the gate has been 6452 since 1998, and will
probably be the same. This is very important information to have --
make sure to bring it with you. Geoff, you may want to write this
on your hand.

SO, WHAT'S IT LIKE?

The camping area has a big covered pavilion for shelter from the
elements. There is running water, which has to be pumped by hand,
so you might be able to brew if you bring Ted and Nico to pump.
I would bring brewing water from home and use the running water for
cooling only.

Trails to Stewart Lake start from the campsite (see map at:
<http://www.abqjournal.com/go/trails/map07-01-98.htm>). There
is a creek nearby to use for fishing/wading/cooling brewpots or
beer. This year there will be absolutely no nude water-skiing --
we don't want a repeat of the nasty fall last year.

There are usually feats of skill and endurance, such as beer-handed
horseshoes (BYO this year) and fuzzy photography. Children, dogs,
and even spouses have been known to enjoy themselves.

BUT, WHAT AM I GONNA EAT?

Everybody brings their own food, but there is usually a lot
of sharing. Saturday night is a group potluck, so plan to have
something to share. Everybody brings beer and mead to share. We
have often had more coolers of beer than people. One thing --
avoid the wild fartblossom mead, no matter what Ray tells you.

Also, everyone brings their own camping equipment. Absolutely no
moose allowed. This means you, Evan and Marcelo.

WHAT ABOUT FIRE RESTRICTIONS?

I haven't heard about any fire restrictions this year, so you can
bring the charcoal, Richard. Even rauchbier is allowed.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PICTURES?

OKAY, SO WHAT IS THIS GONNA COST ME?

Probably nothing. Total cost for the site is $109. We will split this
fee between the clubs according to attendance. For all Atom Mashers,
and Los Alamites, the fee is paid by the club. What the hell, we'll
cover the Santa Fe people too, so come on out (That means you, Kento,
Chris, Jeff!). Fine print: in the event that at least one person
from the group of David, Kevin, Tom and Badger does not come, the
Dukes will forfeit and must pay the entire fee. Further disclaimers,
please read: <http://www.rjgeib.com/about-me/disclaimer.html>.
