Entries will be accepted in all categories listed for the BJCP Style Guidelines.
Only one entry per subcategory will be accepted. Cider and meads will not be eligible for Best of Show.

Entry Deadline

Registration begins February 2, 2008.
Entry registration will be accepted through Saturday, March 1, 2008We encourage entries to be completed Online, click HERE (same form is used for beer, Judge, and Steward registration). All entries must be entered by that date in order to be eligible for judging.

  1. Entries may be hand carried/dropped off at American Brewmaster, 3021-5 Stoneybrook Dr. Raleigh, (919)-850-0095 up to 5 pm on Saturday March 8th, no exceptions anything left at AB after that date and time will not be eligible for judging. There will be no further pick-up before the competition. Registered entries that are shipped need to be received at the alternate address no later than March 8th.

  2. Entries can be shipped for delivery to American Brewmaster.or the alternate address (see addresses below).

  3. Pre-registered entries will be accepted at the CARBOY meeting on Wednesday February 27th or the TRUB meeting in Durham on Wednesday March 13th.

  4. Due to the volume of entries, we are no longer able to accommodate out-of-town judges and stewards who wish to bring their entries on the day of the competition. No entries will be accepted on the day of the competition. Please plan to drop off your entry to one of the pickup locations or ship it to the competition at the address provided before March 8th.

Should consist of two (2) bottles, each with a completed bottle ID form attached by a rubber band, and accompanied by a completed entry form and payment. A third bottle may be submitted, if desired. (Meads may be submitted in a single champagne-style bottle.)

$6 for each entry
No limit on entries. Please enclose a single check for the total fees made payable to "CARBOY"

Bottles

Each bottle must be plain glass, brown or green, 10 to 16 ounces in volume, and crown capped. Bottles and caps must be free of anything which is sufficiently unique that it could identify a brewer to a judge. This may include raised lettering, labels, unique bottle shapes or the like. No swing-top bottles. Bottle caps should have any distinguishing marks completely blacked out. (Use of brown, long-neck, 12 oz. bottles is encouraged but not required.) Bottles not meeting these guidelines will be disqualified, and ineligible for award. (They may be judged at the discretion of the competition organizers.) NOTE: Reusable containers, including "Carbonator" type devices CAN NOT be returned.

Judging

Judging will take place at BB&Y Restaurant at 9 am on Saturday, March 15.
Every effort will be made to have all entries judged by qualified participants in the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP).

BB&Y Restaurant is located on the first floor of the Caswell Building at 3700 National Drive, in the Glenwood Place (formerly known as Koger Center) off Glenwood Avenue in west Raleigh (Glenwood Ave exit off 440, towards Raleigh/away from Crabtree Valley Mall). Map to BB&Y

  1. Apprentice judges are welcome and will be paired with experienced judges.

  2. Judges and stewards will be our guests for lunch.

  3. Those wishing to judge or steward should contact the Judge Director or  Steward Director (respectively, see below).

  4. Judge and steward experience points will be reported to the BJCP.

  5. Judges and stewards are expected to arrive not later than 8:30 am.

  6. Some categories may be condensed with categories of similar style for determining 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, at the organizers' discretion.

  7. Conversely, categories in which a large number of entries are received in each of several sub-categories may be expanded to determine ribbon winners and Best of Show entries.

  8. Our commitment to you: We will have your score sheets in the mail to you within 72 hours following the competition.

  9. Bagels, coffee and juice will be served for breakfast. Sandwiches, chips, salads, beer, and soft drinks will be available for lunch.

Prizes

1st, 2nd & 3rd place beers in each category will receive a ribbon. 1st, 2nd & 3rd place
Best of Show beers will receive a custom plaque. 1st, 2nd, 3rd ribbons awarded for meads/ciders.

Carolinas Brewer of the Year

This is the first competition in the series leading to the 2007 Carolinas Brewer of the Year award. The others being (in chronological order), the U.S. Open sponsored by the Carolina Brewmasters (May ??), Alcohol Through Fermentation (ATF) May Mead Madness (May ??), the DEA Challenge sponsored by the Down East Alers (June ??), the Blue Ridge Brew Off hosted by the Mountain Ale and Lager Tasters' (September ??), the TRUB Open sponsored by the TRiangle's Unabashed homeBrewers (??), the Battleground Brewers Guild's Skirmish in the Triad (November ??), and the Palmetto State Brewers' Open sponsored by the Palmetto State Brewers (December ??). Carolinas Brewer of the Year is awarded to the Carolinas homebrewer who receives the greatest number of points, earned by placing in the participating annual Carolina competitions.
