The title of Gulf Coast Homebrewer of the Year is given to the person or team who accumulates the most placement points from the Bluebonnet Brew-off, the Crescent City Competition and Crawfish Boil, the Sunshine Challenge 2000, and the Dixie Cup competitions.
The title of Gulf Coast Homebrew Club of the Year is given to the homebrew club who accumulates the most placement points from the Bluebonnet Brew-off, the Crescent City Competition and Crawfish Boil, the Sunshine Challenge 2000, and the Dixie Cup competitions.
Entries in all BJCP/AHA recognized beer and mead styles are counted. (For example this leaves out the Dixie Cup "stupid" beer and the Crescent City Louisiana Swamp Ale, as well as cider categories which are only judged at the Bluebonnet and Sunshine Challenge competitions.)
3 points are given for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place and 1 point for 3rd place. No points awarded for Best of Show.
If an individual enters as a member of a team, the points are counted for the team. This avoids the problem of how to distribute points to individuals who also enter as members of a team. (For example, Brewer 1 enter 2 beers that both take a first place -- one as Brewer 1, and the other as a member of the Brewer 1 & Brewer 2 team. Thus, Brewer 1 pick up 3 points, and the Brewer 1 & Brewer 2 team picks up 3 points. There is no combining of team points with individual points.)
The title is announced at the conclusion of the Dixie Cup each year.
