1998:  The first Mountain Brewer Open was held at the Boggess farm in Hurricane WV.  

1999:  The MBO contest was moved to Huntington Museum of Art.  Mike Bronosky won best of show with an American Pale Ale.

2000 - 2003:  Gordon Strong showed off his brewing skills by taking the BOS for four consecutive years.  Not only did Gordon out scored ~400 homebrew entries, in 2001 and 2002 his beers finished 1st and 2nd in the BOS judging.   

2004:  The contest drew 141 entries from 13 states with Best of Show going to Bernie Kessel ( Weaverville , NC ) for his Northern German Pilsner.  The first time an out-of-town entry received top honors.  Bernie lead all brewers winning six medals in the contest. 

Runner up in the BOS judging went to Mike Busby (Pace, FL) for an outstanding Orange Blossom Mead. 

The 2004 contest featured a special Big Brew category for beers made on National Homebrew Day.  The category attracted 10 entries from four states (WV, KY, OH, and GA).  First place went to Phil Ferrell ( Cumming , GA ) for an Oktoberfest. 

2005:  Due to increasing entries, the contest was moved to St. Clouds Commons in Huntington, WV.  A Label Contest was added as a new feature for the contest.  Two local bands will provided music at the GHHA Brewfest and Award celebration.

The contest attracted 151 entries from 19 states.   45 judges helped judge 19 flights of entries. Best-of-Show went to Joe Snavely (GHHA) for his Raspberry Lambic.  Missy Gebhardt's "Brown Pants" label was voted most creative and gave her bragging rights for the label contest.  The Spirit of Free Beer Traveling Trophy was awarded to Wayne Palumbo.   

2006:  Attempts to move the contest to downtown Huntington hit a snag when the ABC flexed its muscle.  After some scrambling The Mountain Brewer Open and GHHA Brewfest was moved to the Huntingtonized Credit Union.  A total of 223 entries from 19 states were logged into the contest.  64 judges helped judge the 18 flights.   

Best of Show was awarded to Joe Snavely for his Dortmunber Export.  Dave Zalewski Still Mead won Best of Show for the Mead/Cider entires.  Missy Gebhardt won the Spirit of Free Beer Traveling Trophy.  Missy also won the label contest with her "Taking No Shirt Brown Ale" entry successfully defended her title.    

2007:  The 10th Annual Mountain Brewer attracted 187 entries from 22 states.  61 judges participated in this years contest.  Cody and Steve Wiseman took the Best of Show trophy for thier Black Powder Porter.  Gordon Strong won Best of Show Mead/Cider category for his Apple Pie Cyser.  Brian Staley won the Spirit of Free Beer Traveling Trophy.  Wayne Palumbo won the label contest with is "Stick People" entry.
