Commemorative mead

The Commemorative Mead was born on Labor Day, 1999 at the home of renowned meader Bill Pfeiffer.

The team consisted of AABG members Dan McConnell, Carol Messina, Arnold Neitzke, Bill Pfeiffer and Ken Schramm.

The mead was created from 66 lbs of honey and 14 lbs North Star cherries, 6 lbs Obilniska cherries, 4 lbs Pozog cherries, 28 lbs Heritage and Latham raspberries, filtered reverse-osmosis water, pectic enzyme, yeast nutrient and a starter mixture of three yeast strains. After three hours of hard work, yeast was pitched, and the resulting 30 gallons of mead was fermented. Bill's magical blend of preservatives was added, and the mead awaits bottling to be enjoyed at the 2000 AHA NHC!

Let's have a look in on the activity at the Pfeiffer meadery...

Arnold and Ken prepare the fruit as Dan McConnell, intrepid record-keeper, looks on!
Ken demonstrates just how it's done...
"Handling the fruit takes a delicate touch..."

"Ummm. Munch! Smack! Urrrrp!!!"

Hey, Ken Leave some for the mead!

Stuffing the fruit into the neck of each of the fermenters is quite a trial!
"Hey! SOMEBODY'S got to take the notes!!!"
